Every day, 7 people die in home fires and tragically, most victims die in homes that don’t have working smoke alarms. The Red Cross wants to do everything we can to prevent these needless tragedies and IEEE MOVE volunteers have been instrumental in helping the Home Fire Campaign canvas at-risk neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, and educate families about fire prevention and safety.
You can help!
IEEE-USA’s MOVE Community Outreach Initiative has supported this program since 2016 and were happy to assist again this spring in Durham, NC (April 27) and Fayetteville, NC (May 4).
This Spring, the American Red Cross needs your help to install 100,000 free smoke alarms in 100 at-risk communities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Please visit https://www.redcross.org/sound-the-alarm.html for more information about how to get involved in your local area.
