IEEE-USA MOVE at 2017 National Scout Jamboree

JayMOVE160UPDATE – IEEE-USA’s Community Outreach Initiative (The MOVE Project), was an integral part of the booths at this year’s National Scout Jamboree and provided STEM activities to booth visitors. The IEEE-USA MOVE vehicle was on site July 18-25.

The MOVE vehicle offers a mobile emergency relief program committed to assisting victims of natural disasters with short-term communications, computer, and power solutions.

IEEE emeritbadges STEM Project

merithorizThe IEEE emeritbadges.org STEM program has developed hands-on electricity and electronics instructional material based on the Boy Scouts’ merit badge requirements. Any student, boy or girl can use the program to enhance technical literacy and learn more about viable engineering and other technical career options. The IEEE emeritbadges.org STEM program sponsored the Electricity Merit Badge and the Electronics Merit Badge booth at the 2017 National Scout Jamboree.

Additional Information

In addition, one of our volunteers, West Virginia Delegate Ed Evans, America’s Top Science Teacher (2008), provided several STEM experiments and demonstrations in the STEM Careers and Demonstrations section of our booth.  Ed also broadcasted live from our booth daily at 1500 hrs EDST over the internet radio station Scouting Radio scoutingradio.com out of Dublin, Ireland.  As part of our globalization efforts, emeritbadges prepared a Train-the-Trainer webinar for IEEE STEM volunteers in Regions 1 – 10 to show them how our STEM education program can be used in their local communities.  All of their instructional material can be found at www.emeritbadges.org.

About the 2017 National Scout Jamboree

intlscoutThe National Scout Jamboree is a gathering, or jamboree, of thousands of members, boys and girls, of the Boy Scouts of America. The Jamboree is usually held every four years. Youth from all over the nation and the world have the opportunity to attend. The Jamboree was attended by over 40,000 in 2013. The Jamboree is held at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Glen Jean, WV, July 19, 2017 – July 28, 2017.
